JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — Protesters marched from several mosques to the heavily guarded U.S. Embassy in Indonesia’s capital Friday to denounce the staunch American support for Israel and demand an end to Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.Similar protests also took place in front of the United Nations mission, a few kilometers (miles) from the embassy, and in the compound of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Authorities estimated that about 1,000 people participated in the rallies across Jakarta following Friday prayers in the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation.A brutal incursion into southern Israel by Hamas fighters on Oct. 7 provoked Israel to declare war against the militant group that rules Gaza. Five takeaways from Biden’s Oval Office address

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 17:41:43 GMT

(The Hill) - President Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office Thursday evening. The main topics of the 15-minute speech were the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, and the war in Ukraine. The Middle East has entered a horrific new phase since Hamas killed about 1,400 Israelis in a surprise attack on Oct. 7. Israeli reprisals have killed around 3,800 Palestinians. A ground invasion of Gaza by Israel could come at any moment. On Ukraine, polls show American public commitment to the war wavering as the price tag for aid keeps rising. Biden’s speech was also delivered against a backdrop of dysfunction on Capitol Hill, where the House has been without a Speaker since Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was ousted on Oct. 3. Here are the main takeaways from Biden’s speech. An attempt to weave together Ukraine, Israel and Gaza The central point of the speech was to make the case for new tranches of aid to Ukraine and to Israel.  B...

Here's her email: Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! Hi Jaime. I was at a restaurant with my husband and a few friends over the weekend. We brought my 1 year old, who sat at the table with us. He of course dropped some food and other things on the ground over the course of our meal. We ate our food, paid our bill, and got ready to leave. As we were walking away, one of my friends stopped us and says "aren't you going to pick up after your child?" I couldn't believe she said that. I get we're at a restaurant, but he's a child. He didn't mean to leave scraps on the ground. She said I should've taken the time to pick up what was dropped so the waitress doesn't have to. I think it's the waitress's job to clean up. Was I out of line or was my friend wrong to say anything? Thanks so much.PattyI don't know if Patty's friend should have sai...
