Images from NASA's Earth Observatory show how the once-extinct Tulare Lake in California is roaring back to life thanks to the historic wet and snowy winter, KTLA sister station KGET/KSEE reports. Tulare Lake located in the San Joaquin Valley was once the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River. By the 1920s, the rivers that fed the lake were dammed and diverted for uses such as irrigation. Since then, the lakebed has been covered by farms that grow a variety of crops. Heavy rain and snow in the first three months of 2023 have once again brought water to the Tulare lakebed. This image on the left was acquired by NASA's Operational Land Manager (OLI) on March 18, 2022, and it shows agricultural fields near Corcoran covered with water. The satellite image on the right is of the same area on March 29, 2023.NASA officials say the image is false color, which makes the water (dark blue) stand out from its surroundings. Vegetation is green and bare ground is brown. With a popul...Still no agreement about water cuts in talks about Colorado River

The Biden administration released an environmental analysis Tuesday of competing plans for how seven Western states and tribes reliant on the dwindling water supply from the Colorado River should cut their use but declined to publicly take a side on the best option. On one side is California and some tribes along the river that want to protect their high-priority rights to the river's water, which they use for drinking and farming. On the other side are the other six states — Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming and New Mexico — who say it's time to come up with an approach that more fairly shares the river. The Interior Department did not say how states should get to deeper water cuts, but defended its authority to make sure basic needs such as drinking water and hydropower generated from the river are met — even if it means setting aside the priority system."Failure is not an option,” Interior Deputy Secretary Tommy Beaudreau told The Associated Press. The 1,450-mi...2 Hospitalized after Crash on Alfred Harrell Highway [Bakersfield, CA]

In a time when mainstream music often feels superficial and uninspired, Bay Area-based hard rock band Modern Monsters emerges as a breath of fresh air. Their upcoming EP “Malice,” set for release on March 24th across streaming platforms, positions the quintet to substantially impact the hard rock landscape. By blending the anthemic melodies and lyrical mischief of their influences—Faith No More, Alice in Chains, and AFI—Modern Monsters have crafted a distinct and punchy signature sound that will leave a lasting impression.A standout track on “Malice” is their spirited rendition of Jefferson Airplane’s psychedelic classic, “White Rabbit.” Infusing the song with a healthy dose of punk attitude and militant energy, the band transforms it into a fiery anthem that showcases their capacity to scorch the earth with their sound. Modern Monsters excel at this kind of music—simultaneously lively and deadly serious, with a desire to disrupt the status ...Maximize Your Money with the Best in the Financial Services Business, Robert Gill

Nara Schoenberg | (TNS) Chicago TribuneThe company that wants to send part of a controversial 1,300-mile carbon dioxide pipeline through Illinois is seeking a fast-tracked permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that would not require public notification or input. The expedited permit process, which is supposed to take about 60 days, can help businesses and regulators by reducing delays and paperwork. But environmentalists — who discovered Omaha-based Navigator CO2′s pipeline permit application via a public records request — say that fast-tracking is intended for activities with minimal effects on waterways and wetlands, not massive interstate pipelines that carry a toxic substance and run under major rivers.“They’re exploiting, essentially, a weakness or a loophole in the program,” said Lan Richart, co-director of the Champaign-based environmental group Eco-Justice Collaborative and a member of the Coalition to Stop CO2 Pipelines. “Our concern is that there is absolutely no oppo...Latest news
