Woman killed in sledgehammer attack on L.A. County college campus

Loved ones are devastated after a woman was killed in a violent attack on the campus of El Camino College near Torrance.The victim, identified only as a woman in her 60s, was walking her dog on Christmas Eve morning around 7 a.m. when the attack happened, according to campus police.As the victim was collecting recyclables, she was suddenly attacked by a man with a sledgehammer. He fled the scene before authorities arrived.A passerby had spotted the fallen woman next to the gymnasium building. Arriving officers found the woman unconscious and bleeding from her head.Her dog had remained by her side. A teenager was hospitalized after a shooting in Pomona on Tuesday night.The victim was only identified as a 16-year-old boy by the Pomona Police Department.Authorities received reports of an injured person found on the 1300 block of West Mission Boulevard around 9:22 p.m.Arriving officers found the teen suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He remains in critical condition on Wednesday night.No suspect was found at the scene as the investigation remains ongoing. (KRON) -- An elderly woman was killed after a fire overnight Wednesday at a single-family home, the Oakland Fire Department said. The fire happened around 2:32 a.m. at a home on the 2900 block of Partridge Avenue. The woman, who officials say was in her 90s, suffered smoke inhalation and burns across her body. She was alone in the house at the time of the fire. SFFD crews work to rescue 2 people from car that fell 100 feet OFD said the fire was accidental and appeared to have started in a wall furnace in the house's basement area. Approximately 25 firefighters responded to the fire and helped prevent the fire from spreading to other homes.No OFD firefighters were injured in the response. (FOX40.COM) -- The disappearance of a 27-year-old woman, who is deemed "at-risk," is currently under investigation, according to the Plumas County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's officials say Sierra Sweeting, who is described as a 5 foot 5, 125-pound Black woman with brown hair, and brown eyes, was last seen at 4 a.m. on Wednesday. "The initial investigation indicates that Sierra left her family home on foot sometime between 4 a.m. and 7:30 am.," the agency said on social media. Sheriffs added that Sweeting's family home is off of C Road in Clio.
