Woods and his limp back at Masters, but for how much longer? By DOUG FERGUSON (AP Golf Writer)AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Tiger Woods is back at the Masters, along with his slight limp. It is not every step, every minute. But it is there. And as much hardware as he has in his mended right leg, the limp figures to be with him for as long as he plays the sport he once dominated. As for how long he keeps playing Augusta National? That’s a little harder to foresee.Woods conceded that each trip to the Masters — at his age (47) and with surgeries on both legs and his back over the last decade — makes him wonder if it’s going to be the last one.“I don’t know how many more I have in me,” Woods said Tuesday. This will be his 25th time playing the Masters, and Woods still is surprised there was a 24th. He was still recovering last year from crashing his car off a suburban Los Angeles road at over 85 mph, crushing bones in his right leg so badly he said doctors contemplated amputation.“I didn’t know if I...

Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges. At the December in-person court appearance, Merchan will decide on expected motions to dismiss the case. The Iowa Republican caucuses will be held on Feb. 5, 2024, marking the start of the GOP primary season. That underscores how Trump’s legal troubles could shadow him into the period when voters are picking a candidate to nominate for president. The New Hampshire primary, the first one on the GOP calendar, is scheduled for Feb. 13. Trump is expected to use the charges against him to try and rally supp...

Rising salinity creates daily struggle on India’s coast

Rising salinity creates daily struggle on India’s coast By Uzmi Athar | Press Trust of IndiaKOCHI, India — Anthony Kuttappassera’s family has lived in the same house at the edge of the Arabian Sea for more than a century. He grew up drinking water from the pond and the well outside his home. But 60 years ago, that water became too salty to drink. Then it grew too salty for bathing or washing clothes. Now, the pond is green, buggy and nearly dry — just like the rest of the wells and ponds in the Chellanam area of Kochi, a city of about 600,000 people on India’s southwestern coast.Rising seas from climate change are bringing saltwater into the fresh water of places like Chellanam, rendering unusable what had been a vital part of everyday life. And frequent breaks in the pipelines that bring fresh water from inland exacerbates the misery for residents in this village of about 8 square kilometers (3 square miles), requiring water to be trucked in.Each truckload of water has to be poured into barrels and buckets and carried by hand...
