Warriors look to even series after losing opener to Kings SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — After four NBA titles and two more trips to the Finals in the past eight seasons, the Golden State Warriors aren’t about to get flustered by one loss in a best-of-seven series. The Sacramento Kings struck first in the first playoff meeting between the Northern California neighbors and have the lead in the series headed into Game 2 on Monday night. “You just stay calm in the face of adversity,” Warriors guard Klay Thompson said. “You don’t panic when it doesn’t go your way and just be yourself. If you do those three things, it will be great.”The Warriors have done that well over the years, building a dynasty around the core of Thompson, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. The Kings are in new territory, having made the playoffs for the first time since 2006, and used that emotion from their success-starved fans to fuel a late-game push that led to a 126-123 victory behind a 38-point effort from De’Aaron Fox.The Warriors struggled to keep Fox out of t...

Grayson Rodriguez bounces back and Cedric Mullins has 4 RBIs as Orioles rally past White Sox, 8-4, win series For the third straight start to begin his major league career, Grayson Rodriguez walked the first batter of the game. The recent trend of poor first innings — and innings that unravel on the young right-hander — reached a new peak Sunday against the Chicago White Sox when the Orioles’ top pitching prospect allowed four runs and two homers in the opening frame after walking the first batter. But what started with the worst inning of his nascent big league career ended as perhaps his most encouraging outing. Rodriguez got a double play to escape the first and then retired 12 of the next 15 batters while striking out a career-high eight batters over his final four scoreless frames. After the four-run first, Rodriguez kept Baltimore in the game, allowing the Orioles’ offense the chance to come back and win, 8-4.The Orioles (9-7) scored three runs in the fourth off Dylan Cease, the 2022 American League Cy Young runner-up, tied the game in the sixth and then plated t...

Mets sweep A’s after extra-innings win in series finale OAKLAND, Calif. — Eduardo Escobar looked like he was finally going to break through with the big hit that had eluded him all season. But then Tony Kemp laid out to make a diving catch in left field, robbing Escobar of extra bases.Again, in the ninth Escobar had a chance to be the hero for the Mets with the game tied at 3-3 and only one out. But the Oakland A’s went to the bullpen and Sam Moll (0-2) got the job done, getting Escobar to hit into a double play. The Mets ultimately defeated the A’s 4-3 in 10 innings to complete their first sweep of the season, with a wild pitch by right-hander Zach Jackson scoring Escobar, of all people, in the 10th inning on Sunday afternoon at RingCentral Coliseum. Escobar was used as the ghost runner to start the inning. It’s been a tough start to the season for Escobar and now his future with the Mets (10-6) is murky as the club is set to call up third base prospect Brett Baty for the next series against the Los Angeles Dodgers...

‘This is the best city in the world’ Boston never forgets. That perseverance will be on display today at the 127th running of the Boston Marathon and was also found at Fenway Park Sunday afternoon and Sunday night at the Greg Hill Foundation’s 10 Years Stronger fundraiser.“We love you Boston strong,” said Marty Walsh, the former mayor and Labor Secretary who has jumped to the NHL Players’ Union. But he summed up the overwhelming spirit shared by everyone at the event — from Bruin Cam Neely, Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck, bombing survivor Paul Norden, music lover and car magnate Ernie Boch Jr., WEEI personality Greg Hill, former Suffolk DA Dan Conley and hundreds more — who promised to help bombing survivors “in perpetuity.”That’s a long time.“This is the best city in the world,” said Norden, who lost his right leg a decade ago in the bombings on Boylston Street. He was at the event along with what seemed to be the entire city. But it’s what he told the ...

Miami Heat lose Tyler Herro with broken right hand vs. Bucks | Video Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro broke his right hand in the first half of Sunday’s Eastern Conference playoff opener against the Milwaukee Bucks at Fiserv Forum, likely ending his postseason.Herro was injured diving for a loose ball late in the second quarter and immediately attempted to head to the locker room, cradling his arm.A native of the Milwaukee area, Herro had 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting in the first half.Duncan Robinson started the second half in place of Herro.Herro’s injury likely will move Victor OIadipo back into the rotation. Oladipo, a defensive standout in last season’s Heat run to the Eastern Conference finals, had fallen out of the primary rotation since Kyle Lowry returned March 11 from a month out due to knee soreness. The Bucks lost All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo to a back contusion earlier in the game, putting his status for the balance of the best-of-seven series into question.Game 2 of the series is 9 p.m. Wednesday at Fiserv Forum, a...

‘I’m pretty proud of it’; Ortiz reflects on speech after bombing David Ortiz knows that what he said at the first game at Fenway Park after the Boston Marathon bombing had an impact — in Boston and around the world.Ortiz and many of his 2013 World Series champion teammates were honored Sunday in Boston before the Red Sox played the Los Angeles Angels. He’ll also be the grand marshal for this year’s marathon, which will be run Monday morning.Ten years ago, two bombs detonated near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three people and injuring nearly 300. Five days later, the Red Sox played a home game, at Fenway, where Ortiz stood in front of the pitcher’s mound and said: “This is our (expletive) city. And nobody’s gonna dictate our freedom. Stay strong.”The Red Sox took off after that moment and went on to win the World Series.“You know what, 10 years later I can tell you about the impact of what I say (had),” Ortiz said Sunday. “To be honest with you, I’m so proud it was take...
