There was trouble on the Florida Turnpike as troopers were in pursuit of a stolen car.A 7News viewer captured the moment Florida Highway Patrol troopers surrounded the stolen Alfa Romeo and stepped out on the highway, with guns drawn, Friday afternoon.Troopers placed the driver of the vehicle under arrest after, investigators said, he took off from a traffic stop in the area of the Golden Glades Interchange.7SkyForce hovered above the highway showing the ending of the ordeal near Northwest 199th Street.FHP officials said a trooper conducted a PIT maneuver, bringing the pursuit to an end.The silver sedan sustained considerable damage due to the crash. The Broward Sheriff’s Office Missing Persons Unit is seeking the public’s help in finding Janay Ruby Campbell, a 28-year-old woman missing from Pompano Beach.Campbell was last seen around 10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, in the vicinity of the 200 block of Northeast 24th Avenue in Pompano Beach. She was wearing a blue hoodie and blue pants at the time, according to detectives. A judge has not yet reached a decision as to whether Derek Rosa, a 13-year-old boy accused of murdering his mother, will remain at an adult jail facility or will be transferred to a juvenile detention center pending his trial. Rosa currently remains at Metro West Detention, an adult facility that opened a juvenile wing in October. He is one of 34 young inmates at the facility and is the youngest. The other 33 inmates are between 16 and 17 years old.During the hearing on Friday, Rosa’s attorneys made their case to have the teenager moved to a juvenile-only facility. His attorneys spend most of the afternoon asking questions about every aspect of his life while he was behind bars at the Metro West. The person responsible for slashing an Israeli flag sign outside Bagel Time Cafe in Miami Beach has been arrested, according to 7News sources. A Florida City couple was arrested on charges of aggravated child abuse after an investigation revealed disturbing incidents of violence against their young children.Ashanti Sereeta Young, 43, and Janice Young, 46, were taken into custody Thursday. The incident came to light when a school counselor at the children’s elementary school reported concerns about the welfare of the children, authorities said.According to the arrest report, during interviews conducted with the victims, one of the children, a seven-year-old boy, stated that Janice Young, identified as his mother, had beaten him with a white extension cord for coloring in one of his books. With the recent uptick in shark encounters along the coast of Cape Cod, a new device could soon be used to keep swimmers safe. “Exclusion Barrier” is a network of black plastic pipes that are supposed to keep people and sharks separate. 7NEWS recently spoke with Dr. Craig O’Connell, a shark researcher with the O’Seas Conservation Foundation, who said any measure to minimize risk is one worth trying.“It is the sharks’ realm,” O’Connell said. “It is their environment and we do have to enter with caution.”O’Connell said a large, visual structure such as the Exclusion Barrier system “works very well on visual predators like the great white shark.” “As those sharks swim closer and closer to the barrier, the electromagnetic field gets stronger and stronger and it basically gives them a little bit of a shock and they swim away,” O’Connell said.
