Considering the magnitude of the issue, there need to be programs to get people off the streets and have them triaged by those qualified to address their issues — be it no resources, addiction or incapacity.Perhaps each state, using federal matching funds, could develop appropriate facilities in open, semi-rural spaces to house and address the issues. There are colleges and universities that have people being educated in fields of medicine, psychology, social services who could do their clinical time in such places. Those who scoff at using resources for helping people and addressing issues may not understand that not caring for people can lead to more unpleasant outcomes in our communities than people just “sleeping” in th...Capitola woman’s boyfriend arrested after human remains found in Tilden Regional Park

Authorities arrested a 54-year-old man Tuesday in the killing of his girlfriend after the discovery of human remains in a wooded area of Tilden Regional Park.Investigators booked Theobald “Theo” Lengyel into the Santa Cruz County jail on suspicion of murder in the death of Capitola resident Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann, according to the Capitola Police Department.Herrmann, 61, was last seen Dec. 3, prompting the Capitola and El Cerrito police departments to open an investigation nine days later into her disappearance. Authorities later found human remains in Tilden Regional Park, located within Berkeley and Contra Costa County. The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office is still analyzing DNA from the body to positively identify it. However, investigators said information gathered over the past month led to them to suspect foul play in Herrmann’s death.Capitola police released little information on where the body was found, how it ended up in ...Iran attack on small town utility spurs cybersecurity concerns

By Marc Levy | Associated PressHARRISBURG, Pa. — The tiny Aliquippa water authority in western Pennsylvania was perhaps the least-suspecting victim of an international cyberattack. It had never had outside help in protecting its systems from a cyberattack, either at its existing plant that dates to the 1930s or the new $18.5 million one it is building. Then it — along with several other water utilities — was struck by what federal authorities say are Iranian-backed hackers targeting a piece of equipment specifically because it was Israeli-made.“If you told me to list 10 things that would go wrong with our water authority, this would not be on the list,” said Matthew Mottes, the chairman of the authority that handles water and wastewater for about 22,000 people in the woodsy exurbs around a one-time steel town outside Pittsburgh. The hacking of the Municipal Water Authority of Aliquippa is prompting new warnings from U.S. security officials at a time when states and the fede...Man who allegedly tried to hit police officer with car arrested

(KRON) -- San Mateo police arrested a man Tuesday for several felony crimes including allegedly trying to hit a police officer with a stolen vehicle in November, officials said.On Nov. 19, 2023, the California Highway Patrol was chasing a GMC Sierra into San Mateo. Fairfield police responded to the chase near the intersection of El Camino Real and 4th Avenue where the truck stopped. Officials said they saw a man trying to enter several businesses in the area. Officers said they confronted the suspect but he immediately fled and ran back to the truck.Police said the suspect got in the truck and began recklessly driving, going over several curbs and driving on the sidewalk. Police also said the suspect drove straight at one of the officers who had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit.The suspect then started driving the truck away, leading officers on a car chase which ended when the suspect drove through a fence and into San Mateo Creek near the 700 block of 1st Avenue. The suspe...Vikings still struggling to stop the quarterback carousel from spinning with Cousins out

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kirk Cousins naturally evoked the loudest roar of the night in Minnesota, further amping up a high-energy atmosphere for a crucial game against Green Bay.Who could’ve predicted earlier this season that such a sight would signal a big problem for the Vikings?Recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, Cousins was relegated to the role of hype man when he ripped his shirt off to fire up the crowd from a perch above the stadium right before kickoff. His encouraging and insightful presence on the sideline did little to help his replacements. When Jaren Hall was benched for Nick Mullens at halftime, after an interception and a fumble each set up a Packers touchdown, Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell switched quarterbacks for the fifth time in nine games. Though there was little reason to doubt Cousins would avoid injury in 2023 as he did over the first 11 years of his NFL career, the lack of a proven backup has bitten the Vikings (7-9) badly. The spinning carousel h...Dolphins to host Bills with a chance to win AFC East, start playoffs at home

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The Miami Dolphins will be in the playoffs no matter what, but there’s plenty at stake in their showdown with AFC East rival Buffalo on Sunday night. The Dolphins’ chances at earning the AFC’s top seed ended when they were blown out at Baltimore last weekend. But a victory over the Bills would give them their first AFC East title since 2008 and the No. 2 seed in the conference. If Miami loses, it would fall to the No. 6 seed and likely would need to win three road playoff games to reach the Super Bowl.Playing at home could bode well for the Dolphins, who are 7-1 at Hard Rock Stadium.Miami had three turnovers at Baltimore on Sunday and gave up a season-high 491 yards as breakdowns in communication on both sides of the ball stalled momentum. Tua Tagovailoa was 22 of 38 for 237 yards and two touchdowns. Tyreek Hill caught six passes for 76 yards but dropped a potential touchdown when he was wide open in the end zone on Miami’s second dri...Rafael Nadal gana en su regreso en individuales tras uno de los “años más duros” de su carrera

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Just when it appeared the season couldn’t get any more embarrassing for the Carolina Panthers, owner David Tepper finds himself embroiled in a public relations nightmare after video surfaced of the billionaire throwing the contents of a drink in the direction of Jaguars fans from his suite following a 26-0 loss at Jacksonville on Sunday. The NFL on Tuesday fined Tepper $300,000, calling his conduct “unacceptable,” and Tepper apologized in a statement.“I respect the NFL’s code of conduct and accept the league’s discipline for my behavior,” Tepper said. The fine is nothing the league’s second-wealthiest owner can’t handle. But what’s worse is that Tepper’s temper tantrum has drawn even more attention to all that is wrong in Carolina, which has become the laughingstock of the NFL.The NFL-worst Panthers (2-14) are an abysmal 31-67 since Tepper bought the team in 2018, failing to make the playoffs in each of his six seasons. While Tepper’...Why more people are cutting back on streaming subscriptions
