Defence Minister Bill Blair said late Saturday evening that Canada has a “high degree of confidence” that Israel did not strike the al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City on Tuesday. Blair said in a statement that a military analysis found the strike, which the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry said killed hundreds of people, was more likely caused by an “errant rocket” fired from the Gaza Strip. The pronouncement from Ottawa came days after the United States said its own review found that Israel was not responsible for the hospital blast, which the Gaza Health Ministry said killed hundreds of people.President Joe Biden said during a visit to Israel on Wednesday that he was confident the “other team” bore responsibility. On Thursday, facing pressure to provide Canada’s position on the matter, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said his government was taking “all necessary steps” to form its own understanding of what happened. The Canadia...1 dead in auto-pedestrian crash at I-35 frontage road, Braker Lane

A waiter’s valentine to food and his friends at a now-closed Minneapolis restaurant and fiction about a woman who stands up to corporate betrayal give us two good reading options today. “The Last Supper Club: A Waiter’s Requiem”: by Matthew Batt (University of Minnesota Press,.$22.95)I enjoyed teaching very much, but at the end of nearly every day, most of my students regard my classes as — and this is a direct quote from one of my student evaluations — a course that “I thought was going to suck but didn’t.”Restaurants, on the other hand — if they’re good ones — well, we don’t just nourish. We delight. — from “The Last Supper Club”Matthew Batt thought he was going to write a book during his sabbatical from teaching at the University of St. Thomas (he never mentions the name of the college). Fredrik Olofsson’s family moved around a lot when he was a child, but one four-year stop in San Jose meant going to Sharks games and skating with other youth hockey players during intermissions.Flash forward to last season, Olofsson’s first with some time spent in the NHL, and his long journey to the top of the sport came full circle: There, sitting across from him in the Dallas Stars locker room, was Joe Pavelski, one of the players he watched so intently as an elementary school kid.“It was nuts,” Olofsson said. “What a guy. He’s such a pro, but he also acts like he’s 16 still sometimes. He can talk to anyone, and wears many hats.”Olofsson’s NHL career is only 33 games old, but he’s already lived an eventful hockey life. His family lived in Sweden, Germany, Austria and Northern California before settling in Colorado the summer before he started eighth grade. His older brother, Gustav, has played 62 NHL games, including three last season with the Seattle Kraken. Around the AFCKC Runaway?: The Chiefs are out to a 5-1 start and have won five straight. Second-place team in the division? That’s Las Vegas at 3-3. The Chargers (2-3) are typically viewed as the most likely threat to Patrick Mahomes’ divisional dominance, but Kansas City can put them further in the rearview mirror with a win Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.Cleveland’s QB situation: The Browns logged their biggest win of the year Sunday vs. San Francisco with … P.J. Walker at quarterback. DeShaun Watson’s missed time with a shoulder strain and Walker got the nod over Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Pretty good result, beating the best team in football with a backup QB. Watson’s the guy when healthy, but it’s a situation to watch anyway.Patriots (Lost Their) Way: Man, how bad has the situation become in New England? Bill Belichick’s team is 1-5 and only the Giants have a worse point differential than the Patriots’ minus-80. Mac Jones has been benched multiple times and now the team faces Buffa...Keeping receipts: From “Saturday Night Live” to Will Ferrell and Time magazine, how Deion Sanders transformed CU Buffs football in just seven weeks

BOULDER — If you’re wondering just how far this has spread, just how deep it goes, Thanasi “Saki” Mihalakos has a little Buffs story he’d like to share.Saki Mihalakos is a jeweler in north Florida, a former University of South Florida safety-turned-coach and a friend and business associate of the Sanders family. A few days back, he was asked to speak to a group of kids, aged 7-ish to 14-ish, at a local Pop Warner League — impart a little wisdom, talk a little shop. One of the coaches introduced him as the diamond guy. You know? The one who put the bling on all of Shedeur Sanders’ things.Suddenly, all these tiny, skinny left wrists popped up in the air and started flexing, almost in unison. It was as if they were standing in front of an imaginary Arizona State student section at Mountain America Stadium, getting the last word.“They were going crazy, throwing their wrists up,” Mihalakos told The Denver Post earlier this week, chuckling at...Inside the curious mind of Broncos defensive lineman Matt Henningsen: “You can always ask Matt”

Broncos defensive end Matt Henningsen’s curiosity ignited his passion for math and physics as a child. He wanted to learn how the things he used on a daily basis, like cellphones, worked. How could someone make a call from the other side of the world? How can someone’s phone screen completely change just by touching it?The basic functions of a device that some might take for granted fascinated him. For Henningsen, it was magic. And he needed to know the answers.“(You can) touch a screen, and something new pops up,” he said. “… That’s kind of crazy.”On a Broncos roster that features a Super Bowl champion quarterback, an All-Pro cornerback and safety, and the son of a World Series champion, Henningsen might be the most interesting player in the locker room.In high school, he joined a local chess league and was a part of the national Spanish and science honor societies. At the University of Wisconsin, he earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and master’s ...Latest news
