NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. (WSVN)- A different type of seaweed washed up on the shoreline of Neptune Beach where, tons of marijuana littered the shoreline of the beach, not far from Jacksonville.Many were unsure of what it was until some said, they smelled it, Saturday. “There was pot, just marijuana all up and down here,” said Bryan Crews, a beachgoer.“I did pick it up and smelled it to see what it smelled like, it was weed, it’s kind of crazy,” said Zack West, a beachgoer.Officers came out to the beach and cleaned up the mess.As of Monday, it’s not yet clear who it belongs to or how it got on the shoreline of the beach.Guest jumps overboard from Carnival Cruise ship; Coast Guard engages in search and rescue efforts

Jacksonville, Fla. (WSVN) — A search and rescue effort is underway to locate a man who the U.S. Coast Guard said reportedly jumped overboard from a Carnival Cruise Lines ship. According to authorities, the male was identified as 30-year-old Jaylen Hill. The incident occurred aboard the cruise ship Carnival Elation on Sunday morning. The ship was approximately 95 miles east of Melbourne, Florida, at the time of the incident.According to Carnival Cruise Line officials, the Hill reportedly went overboard while the vessel was en route to Jacksonville. The crew became aware of the situation when Hill’s traveling companion notified them late in the afternoon that he had not been seen throughout the day.A comprehensive search was immediately launched on board the ship, and security camera footage was thoroughly reviewed in an effort to ascertain the events leading up to Hill’s disappearance. HOOVER, Ala. (AP) — Authorities in Alabama said Monday that a woman has confessed to fabricating a story that she was kidnapped after stopping to check on a toddler she saw walking on the side of the interstate.Hoover Police Department Chief Nicholas Derzis said Carlee Russell’s attorney, Emory Anthony, provided a statement on Monday saying there was no kidnapping.“There was no kidnapping on Thursday July 13. My client did not see a baby on the side on the road,” the statement read, according to Derzis, who read it at a news conference. She did not leave the city, and acted alone, the statement added.The Hoover Police Department announced the development five days after casting doubt on Russell’s story. (CNN) — The US Department of Justice is suing the state of Texas over its use of floating barriers in the Rio Grande, which Gov. A man arrested in connection with a shooting that left a New Bedford police officer wounded was ordered held without bail on Monday after appearing in court, following his arrest over the weekend.Cheybane Vasconcelos-Furtado, 20, pleaded not guilty while appearing in a courtroom filled, in-part, with members of the New Bedford Police Department.The prosecution said video evidence connected Vasconcelos-Furtado with the shooting at Rivet and Orchard streets on Monday, July 17, which resulted in New Bedford Police Detective Lavar Gilbert suffering a gunshot wound to the face.Gilbert had been working undercover and in an unmarked car at the time of the shooting and was able to drive himself to the hospital afterwards, according to police. Two people were taken to the hospital by helicopter on Monday after an explosion inside a home in Holliston, police said. The explosion happened in the area of Westfield Drive. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — The director of the Miami-Dade Police Department was in critical but stable condition following surgery in a Tampa area hospital a day after shooting himself, state law enforcement officials said Monday.Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez, 52, was in Tampa for a law enforcement conference, officials said.The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, or FDLE, is investigating the shooting with the Florida Highway Patrol.
