AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Tuesday, a Travis County Special Grand Jury concluded its review of an August 2021 shooting incident involving three Austin Police Department officers.Travis County District Attorney José Garza said Officers Derrick Lehman, Jason Cummins and Michael Barba were not indicted by the jury.According to a release, on August 19, 2021, APD officers responded to a 911 call of a man on a high-speed roadway at the 2300 block of South US Highway 183 Northbound. The officers arrived on the scene and found the man, later identified as Lashondell Gillespie, in the middle of the highway. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Leaders behind Austin's Project Connect mass transit system approved several multi-million-dollar contracts Wednesday as the program revs up its light rail system buildout.The Austin Transit Partnership -- the entity tasked with overseeing the delivery of Project Connect -- approved a contract with HDR Engineering Inc. to assist with program development and adhering to standards outlined in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements. By LAURAN NEERGAARD (AP Medical Writer)WASHINGTON (AP) — Older Americans and people with weak immune systems can get an extra COVID-19 booster dose this spring.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday signed off on a more flexible booster schedule for people who remain at the highest risk from COVID-19 — giving them the choice of a second “bivalent” Pfizer or Moderna booster, the most up-to-date formula.“Many in the population are experiencing vaccine fatigue but there is a subset who are eager to receive additional doses,” CDC’s Dr. Sara Oliver told an agency advisory panel that expressed support for the change.The move came a day after the Food and Drug Administration took steps to make coronavirus vaccinations simpler for everyone. The Gophers’ spring football game at 11 a.m. Saturday has been moved to the team’s indoor practice facility and will no longer be open to the public.The U switched the location from Huntington Bank Stadium on Wednesday due to the construction on the scoreboards within the stadium and with the chance of poor weather on Saturday. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Adam Wainwright is one step closer to beginning his sendoff season after completing a rehab start Wednesday in Springfield. Wainwright stretched out to three innings and 59 pitches in his first rehab outing since an abrupt groin injury. He limited damage to just a two-run home runs and four hits. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Max Scherzer was ejected from the New York Mets' game at the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday after umpires did a customary check of his glove before the bottom of the fourth inning.Scherzer was furious when tossed by umpire Phil Cuzzi following the inspection of his glove and a lengthy conversation that included plate umpire Dan Bellino, the crew chief.
