JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — Investigators say they are still looking for whomever was involved in a string of crimes Wednesday night that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old after she was struck and killed by a large rock while driving. While the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office originally said they had located a Dodge pickup truck that may have been involved, they said just before 10 p.m. Thursday that they "positively confirmed" that the truck and its owner "are not involved in the crime series related to the death of Alexa Bartell."The crimes occurred on Wednesday night starting at 10 p.m., according to the Sheriff's Office. Bartell, 20, of Arvada, was driving northbound near the 10600 block of Indiana Street. JCSO believes the suspects threw a large rock either from a vehicle or the side of the road at Bartell's car. Warning: Picking up folded money could be dangerous Investigators say the rock hit Bartell, and she was killed. MOVIE REVIEW“To Catch a Killer”Rated R. At the AMC Boston Common and suburban theaters.Grade: B+In what could be the first of several films, Shailene Woodley stars as Baltimore Police Officer Eleanor Falco, a deeply troubled, not very well-educated young woman who finds herself in the middle of a giant manhunt when she is chosen by leader Geoffrey Lammark (Ben Mendelsohn) to help head the operation. The target is an unknown man, who has murdered 29 people near the harbor with a Vietnam-era sniper rifle, using the noise of fireworks to cover up his shots and his location. Eleanor has scars on her wrists. She lives alone with a cat and finds release and relief swimming laps in a local pool. Using laser technology, the police later locate the residence the sniper used as a lair. The place then blows up.Eleanor was rejected by the Bureau for being “aggressive and addictive.” Lammark, who is brilliant and has enemies, is married to Gavin (Michael Cram, “Flashpoint”) and has heart problem...Guy Ritchie misses the target with ‘The Covenant’

MOVIE REVIEW“Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant”Rated R. At AMC Boston Common, AMC South Bay and suburban theaters.Grade: C+In a weird throwback to those Chuck Norris “Missing in Action “ films of the 1980s, “Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant,” a far better-made effort, is yet another war movie that asks us to feel good about something we should feel bad about. In this case, it is the way that the United States has treated Afghan interpreters and their families, who are now at great risk because visas promised to them have not been made available as promised, and the Afghans and their families are at great risk from the resurgent Taliban. While we were able to drive the Taliban back, the Afghan forces can’t fight the insurgents alone. Our chaotic withdrawal made matters worse. In fact, there was a recent story in the news headlined “Afghans Stranded in Pakistan Are Struggling After Broken Promises from the U.S.” How do we compare this reality with the content of “The Covenant,” a ...Column: Chicago Cubs can’t keep momentum going in return home, losing to the LA Dodgers 6-2

The Chicago Cubs returned to Wrigley Field on Thursday on the heels of a 5-1 West Coast trip, looking very much like a team determined to prove its hot start is not a fluke. But they flopped in their first game home, losing 6-2 to the Los Angeles Dodgers on James Outman’s ninth-inning grand slam off closer Michael Fulmer. While it’s easy for fans to get excited about the 11-7 record, how many games will it take for President Jed Hoyer to feel this is who the Cubs really are?“One (hundred) forty,” Hoyer said with a laugh. That would be another 122 games, or well into the playoff race in September. By that point the Bears will be back and hogging the spotlight again, as happens in Chicago even if one or both of the baseball teams are contenders. When Hoyer turned serious, he said the thing that encouraged him most about the start was the fact the team believes in itself and comes into each game prepared to win.“They come in every day prepared, they’re t...Boys hockey All-Scholastics and league All-Stars

Published Tue, 05 Nov 2024 16:41:45 GMT
If you listen to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen or President Joe Biden, it sounds like the country will implode if Congress fails to raise the debt ceiling in a couple months. But Biden’s words don’t match his actions. He says hitting the debt limit is an existential threat. But by refusing to meet and negotiate with congressional leaders to discuss it, the Biden administration comes closer to bringing about the very crisis they claim they’re trying to prevent.Even if it seems Biden isn’t paying attention to the debt ceiling and government borrowing, Americans should be concerned. The runaway inflation of the past few years is a natural consequence of the unchecked government spending.Though nominal average weekly earnings are up 9% from January 2021, real earnings are down 5.1% because wages have not risen as fast as prices. The debt ceiling negotiation is an opportunity to put an end to the “inflation tax” that’s cutting into Americans’ paychecks. If Congress declines to rais...Graham: RFK Jr.’s talk-show politics could take bite out of Biden

Toward the end of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s bravura performance in a ballroom at the Boston Park Plaza on Wednesday, an alarm bell sounded and a robotic female voice announced “a report of an emergency in this building.” The crowd, 2,000 strong, on hand to hear Kennedy formally declare his candidacy, was instructed to evacuate. After a moment of confusion, RFK Jr. told the crowd he’d been informed that there was no emergency and he would press on with his speech. The bell sounded again, and the demanding, automated voice repeated the call to evacuate.“Nice try,” Kennedy quipped. He wasn’t going anywhere. And the crowd went wild. That was the message Kennedy and his team came to Boston to deliver: Joe Biden may want to ignore him, and some Democrats — including some in his own family — may be embarrassed by him, and the media may hate him. But RFK Jr. is going to run for president, and he’s going to run as if he means it.Because he does.Watching him deliver a smart, carefully calibrated s...Editorial: Hunter Biden probe claims raise red flags

President Biden is all for exposing the truth. In responding to the acquittal of Donald Trump in February 2021, Biden said that all Americans, especially the nation’s leaders, have a duty and responsibility “to defend the truth and to defeat the lies.”That was then, this is now.As the Associated Press reported, an IRS special agent is seeking whistleblower protection to disclose information about what the agent alleges is mishandling of an investigation into President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, according to a letter sent to members of Congress.Mark Lytle, the attorney for the IRS whistleblower, wrote to lawmakers Wednesday that his client has information about a “failure to mitigate clear conflicts of interest in the ultimate disposition” of a criminal investigation related to the younger Biden’s taxes and whether he made a false statement in connection with a gun purchase.“Despite serious risks of retaliation, my client is offering to provide you with informati...‘Evil Dead Rise’ goes all in on gore

He reminds everyone that this is meant as entertainment – and it’s going to be gory! And that, indeed, is one promise he has no trouble delivering.“Evil Dead Rise” begins at a picturesque lakeside cabin in the woods where the tranquil setting is all too soon shattered by a demon-possessed visitor that leaves corpses in its wake.Jump to a day earlier where, in a spacious apartment in a run-down LA building, we meet harried single mom Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland), her three kids – rebellious teen Bridget (Gabrielle Echols), blond, adolescent, would-be deejay Danny (Morgan Davies) and young, innocent little Kassie (Nell Fisher).Ellie’s sister Beth (Lily Sullivan) shows up on a quick break from her job as a rock group’s technical crew to discuss her pregnancy.
